the baseline game — and why you should own at least one Casio watch.

today, i want to start talking about Casio watches. we love Casios. when we launched the instagram channel for our brand, a Casio was the first thing we posted. for this story, i want to introduce you to one of my go-to watches at the moment: the Casio LF-20W-8A — catchy name, i know. however, as we’ve said right from the start, we don’t want this website to be about objects. that‘s why this story won’t be about the watch itself but rather about why I enjoy wearing it and the reason why i think everyone that appreciates watches should own at least one Casio.

to give you just a few highlights about the watch: it is pretty small, super light, comes in two colors and has more functionalities than i could name or ever need (several timezones, date, alarm, timer, etc.). the only drawback: the calendar only works until 2099. besides that and the pretty much non-existent water resistance, it’s a perfectly capable daily watch. and it costs €34,90.

the LF-20W-8A might not be the most stylish, refined or romantic watch, but it does pretty much everything you could need from a timekeeping instrument and it does so for less than €40. that continues to amaze me. with something like watches (and also with a lot of other things), there always is something else — the next level up in some way or another. there always is something better.

then there are watches like the Casio in this story. you do get used to whatever your baseline is. that’s what this watch does for me. it keeps my baseline in check by showing me how far €34,90 can go whenever i wear it. that even makes me look past the limited calendar runway. it‘s also the reason why i think that everybody interested in watches should own at least one Casio.
