side note | thoughts on watch straps.

the importance of details — feat. the Sinn 203.

the first (full) story we told on this website was about the Sinn 103. today, we are again looking at a Sinn watch but — to stick with past habits — without actually talking much about the watch itself. i’ve written previously that beauty can relate to an entire object or a single detail. with this story, i again want to highlight one specific detail about the watch you see here: the strap.

for reference, the watch at hand is a Sinn 203. the design of this model is in many ways similar to the Sinn 103. yet, the two watches give off a visibly different look. that is because of one difference. where the 103 is worn on a bracelet, the 203 comes on a strap — a khaki-colored nato strap.

with the change of one detail, the design seems to change. that is because the two are not independent. the overall appearance depends on the details. a watch hopefully stays with you for years and years. changing a detail, such as the strap, can give a fresh look to something that you might be very familiar with.

that’s what’s important here. how little it takes to see something in a new light and to keep looking for that different perspective. keep your eyes open and stay curious.
